today à Foix, Ariège – France the Beautiful…:-)
– at the foot of the Pyrénées Mountains, along the footsteps of Gaston Phoebus and Henri IV… 🙂
a popular nursery rhyme containing 4 differently spelt words: Foix(the town), fois = time, foie = liver and foi = faith, but they have the same pronunciation… this is the word-by-word translation: 🙂
Il était une fois, – once upon a time,
Un marchand de foie, – a liver seller
Dans la ville de Foix… – in the town of Foix…
Il se dit: ma foi, – he said to himself: (on) my faith
C’est la première fois – it’s the first time
Et la dernière fois, – and the last time,
Que je vends du foie – that I’m selling liver
Dans la ville de Foix… – in the town of Foix… 🙂
***
last but not least: yummy local lunch with smoked duck breast, foie-gras and confit de canard(duck thigh) @ restaurant Henri IV, situated at the foot of the castle – excellent spot! 🙂 more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foix

j’aime beaucoup votre diaporama, bonne journée Mélanie! 🙂
Un très jolie partage! bonne soirée!
🙂 welcome back, Jo! avec plaisir, merci et pareillement! 🙂
Enjoyed that tour Melanie, not that I dont ever enjoy your posts and pics. Love the old castles and ramparts, the knights armour and cannonballs have many storys to tell I think. Regards, Ian
thanx, Ian! if so, come to France and you’ll have the choice of castles… 🙂 meanwhile, here’s another famous one:
It looks a pretty spot, Melanie. I’m off to look at your Carcassone post… 🙂
“I’m a citizen of the world”…
🙂 SPER sa ajungi si-n Islanda… da, sigur ca daca vei avea nevoie de “infos” traite si verificate la fata locului, be my guest and feel free to ask me anything, O.K. c u asap, young lady! 🙂
clever word play, beautiful photos!
mille merci “si belle Lune” aka “petite souris du désert”… 🙂
Magnifiques photos Mélanie, merci, gros bisous, Gigi 🙂
“avé joie et avé plaisire”, Gigi… 🙂
Merveilleux château, merci pour le partage. 🙂
Patria adottiva?
yes, Sir! je l’ai précisé @ my “about”:
I was born in Romania, but I’ve lived longer in France, my current homeland…
Io leggo i suoi post.
What a great nursery rhyme.
it’s kinda French “limerick” to learn the meanings of 4 homonymes… 🙂
I can imagine that children would love learning it.
today à Foix? oh,”today” chez toi! 🙂 ❤
I’ve never been in a castle btw.
oh, it’s never too late to visit one or several castles… 🙂
Yes, right… words can bring sometimes so much confusion and misunderstanding… and I learned recently that the French are using in slang English words of body parts to be polite. 🙂 You have so many beautiful castles in your area and along the Loire valley. Have a beautiful week, Melanie. 🙂
we say in French: on en apprend tous les jours… = we learn something new(unknown) every day… 🙂 btw, I’m a language teacher and a free lancer for North-American newspapers, so words are my hobby and my real playground area… 🙂 The castles of Midi-Pyrénées region are older than the ones of the Loire valley(about 600kms away from here) that I visited several years ago… if you are interested and if you have some spare time, here are 2 “jewels” of my région – Cité de Carcassonne & Rocamadour:

danke for your visit and have a positive week! 🙂
Thank you Melanie for this link. Very interesting and beautiful photos. I hope you have still some hair on your had and not all pulled out while reading my comments and posts in my Gerenlish.
you’re welcome, merci and don’t worry, dude: I’m a steadfast Cappy gal! 🙂
Ohh then I’m soooooooooooooooooo happy! 😉 You’ve made my day mate, but it’s soon over. 😦
guten nacht and sweet dreams of your green grass of home… 🙂
No way, we have a dinner party tonight. Should I keep some left over for you?
non merci, I’ve been into French and Oriental fresh food for many years, I’m both “gourmet and gourmande”… 🙂 QUALITY always comes first, quantity is not my cup of dark chocolate coffee(my middle name is “la femme-chocolat”!)… so I suggest you share your leftovers with your close and loved one(s)… 🙂
Schade. I thought it would be good with a cold coffee together. Did not know that you are so sweet having chocolate as middle name. Hope it’s a Swiss Chocolate. 🙂
nope, it’s French, ’cause most Swiss chocolate is often “milky”(LOL!) and I love only the dark one in my hot coffee: 🙂

Thought so that you are more on the bitter side then the sweet side 🙂 😛 The link is a beautiful post with beautiful art and delicious chocolate and Champagne.
A clever play on words… 🙂
yep, but a “nightmare” for the folks who study French… 🙂 P.S. I met charming Canadians from Vancouver, BC yesterday in Foix: they’ve been in France for 3 months to lear French and they’ll comme back asap! 🙂
Yes, very beautiful! Have a wonderful week, Melanie! 🙂
🙂 I do agree with you, Monsieur Délimaf… merci, buenas noches and the same to you! 🙂
Buenos Dias, Melanie! Hope you will have a big sun in the morning and during all day! Have a wonderful week, dear friend! Take care, 🙂 Fabio
🙂 muito obrigada, Fabio, but then again: what or whom shall I take care of?!… rainy greetings, after 3-4 (hot!) days with 32°C! 🙂
After the rain comes the Sun, and it will be a big one! My best wishes! 🙂
I do like rain… merci and same wishes! 🙂
🙂
thanks for the nursery rhyme side by side translation like that – and I loved the slideshow!!! 🙂
avec joie et avec plaisir, young lady! 🙂
vous êtes cool!!! and I am grateful to you for helping me add a few more vocabulary words to my French – iris actually a desire of my heart to work on my French but the chance never seems to come up. But I am also just glad to encounter your culturally rich posts – not sure how our blog paths crossed – but heureux!
well, I guess so… merci, Madame! 🙂 autrement, everything does happen for at least one reason… 😉 yep, same here… ❤
I love your mélange de langues! 🙂 and the beautiful picture-mix, too. Bisous!
😉 me, too, également… à propos, I’m a citizen of the world, mais profondément européenne! alles gute & poutous! 🙂
