A Toast to Iceland… – Jónas Hallgrímsson

Un toast à l’Islande…

Notre pays des lacs toujours clairs
au-dessous des sommets des montagnes bleues,
des cygnes, des saumons sautant où
l’eau d’argent s’effondre,
des glaciers nus qui enflent en largeur
au-dessus des tendons ardents de la terre –
la Nature y déverse sa générosité,
aussi longtemps que notre île dure!

A Toast to Iceland…

Our land of lakes forever fair
below blue mountain summits,
of swans, of salmon leaping where
the silver water plummets,
of glaciers swelling broad and bare
above earth’s fiery sinews —
Nature pours out its largess there
as long as our island continues!

  1. The rock formation behind the first waterfall is stunning.

  2. Your pictures captivate me Melanie, and your words flow along with them. Looking at your pics excites the adventurer in me, unfortunately age has slowed me down. If only I could have back age and the resources to see what you show. Somethings I can still achieve, Chile later this year. Great post Melanie. Ian

    • thanx, Ian! you already know I love Iceland… ❤ I "envy" you for Chile, dude! 🙂 try to get to Atacama Desert – Valle de la Luna = the Valley of the Moon, it looks like the surface of the moon. It lies about 13kms to the west of the town of San Pedro de Atacama. Have a splendid week, Sir! 🙂

  3. Oh I missed going to Iceland this summer… I was so disappointed but your pictures and words make some sort of amends… thank you! 🙂

  5. I’ve heard of the ” Ice hotel” from a cd by Stacy Kent! Your travels really take you to so many interesting places, Melanie 🙂 Lovely photos too… and thanks for sharing! 🙂 Iris

    • “ice hotel” is not a big deal compared to all Iceland… 🙂 if you’re interested, please enter “Iceland” @ “search” and you’ll see more pix… you’re welcome, Iris! ❤

  7. Off topic: Sărut mâna Melanie!

  12. i have never been to island, but my son was. he found the mystical vibes were all over. thank you for sharing these most beautiful photos and for the deep touching words. ❤

    • as an artist, you’d love Iceland: your son is right… 🙂 you’ll find more pix if you enter Iceland @ “search”… you’re welcome, Sirpa! ❤

  13. So, so beautiful, Melanie!!! Thank you for sharing this beauty! ❤

  14. Ca de obicei niste fotto… GENIALE!!! Chiar eram curios sa aflu parerea dumitale dupa 7/01…

  15. So beautiful Mélanie! Your words capture the delicate balance of nature displayed so elegantly in your photos!

  17. brrrr – and so beautiful!

  18. These are fantastic Melanie. Iceland is definitely somewhere we would like to travel to.

  19. Incredible landscapes! Leslie

  21. Wonderful Toast to Iceland, amazing photos. Love the poem. Iceland is an amazing place. Wishing you a great rest of the week. And weekend Melanie. Love and Blessings, Sue

  22. Imagini superbe, Mel.
