The shades of my dreams are Mediterranean azure and Minorcan lavender blue, but the water is blue over the surface only, nearby the seaside, because its low deepness. It looks transparent, as the sunlight is poorly absorbed, whereas offshore, the thickness of the water layer “swallows” the sunbeams. And yet, its shades are not the reflections of the blue, turquoise or emerald sky. The underground waters have the same color within the abyss, where daylight can’t penetrate, and it’s still blue, illuminated by a flashlight. It gets darker as one sinks down, for the infrared rays are soaked up after the 1st meter. Very little light reaches 100m and beyond 1,000m – there’s the blackest night… 🙂

Extase… – Anna de Noailles

The sky is a huge, sudden feast.
I overthrow my head into this bright shock,
And I’m a breathless kiss in the azure sky,
And I attract, and I drink, and I’m afraid to exhaust
All this living ether that rushes into my heart,
Because my joy is unbridled, such was
Yseult’s distress, drunk with expectation and with love boredom,
Whose screams used to aspire her lover at night…

  1. What lovely azure waters I see… so inviting, I want to go for a swim in them. 😀

  2. Your photos here are mesmerizing and I, too, love the many shades of blue on this earth. Lovely post. 🙂

  3. Those blues are truly food for the soul. How ‘blue’ came to be associated with melancholy, I simply don’t know. Tranquility, more like!

  4. The Med around Sardegna is pure water heaven on earth… close to paradise! 🙂

  5. oh yes, the mediterranean landscape is various and fantastic: from dizzy cliffs to long pearly golden beaches with the clear sparkling blue sea and the sun, but the underwater geology and the plate tectonics still at work makes it really unique! so fine images, dear mélanie!

  6. Beautiful blue! Summer will be here soon. 🙂

  7. Ah!

  14. Such photos are intoxicating! The sea is magical and makes us all feel better. Of course it does have a higher natural concentration of lithium… 🙂

  16. Blue, seems to be the magic word… Your splendid shots really fascinates me!

  17. Those vibrant azures combine pretty well with the sober rocks. Like if they were made of watercolors, breathtaking place and colors. Thanks, Mélanie 🙂

  18. Gorgeous blues. Our Government is spending about a half million dollars on blue colour therapy for the staff of the Social Welfare Department. How silly. To get the same effect, at no cost at all, they could look at your blog, look at the sky and look at the sea. 😉
