legendary and mythical flower, worshipped by the Chinese, symbol of happiness, success and prosperity – THE most Chinese of Japan’s flowers… butterflies flutter around it, and according to the Japanese poetry, they herald the arrival of summertime… their impalpable movement reflects a certain idea of silence that lands over the peony flower, soothing its exuberance… a gentle breeze and a playful wobble lighten the perfect image of the peony, its too rigid arrangement of its petals whose flexibility seems to hide it away from the sunbeams…

rain or wind may threaten the peony, but they don’t have the strength to destroy it, as the weightless and noiseless butterfly displays around it something vibrant, unique that protects and refreshes it like an incandescent, divine, immortal wave… whenever peonies open up to welcome butterflies, they look like stars that have come down on earth to kiss them passionately… eternal peony and ephemeral butterfly – mysterious, incomparable, peaceful beauty – a bunch of peonies express feelings of love, and yet faded, they are sublime… 🙂

  1. Beautiful! And – if it bring butterflies – it’s got to be magical too! {Abrazos}

  2. One of my favourite flowers Melanie. Thanks for sharing the meaning. ❤

  3. One of my favorite flowers. Used to want to dance in a large field of peonies my husband’s family owned. Like the butterfly photos also. Beautiful hand work. Thanks.

  6. ❤ the rose without thorns… in my book, the queen of flowers… femininity in its most sophisticated form.

  8. Love Peonies, I had one that took several years before it flowered… Wishing you well, Melanie… Lovely post. 🙂 xxx

  9. So beautiful, Melanie.

  10. Nothing like peonies – my absolute favorite flower. I even love the way my husband says the name in English – pee-o-NEESE. 😉

    • I love their scent, and I’ve used Pivoine-allegria de Guerlain for years, but Yves Rocher’s pivoine items are fine, too… 🙂 I can imagine your hubby’s French accent in English, he must be a darlin’ – like mine! 😉

  12. … vara a sosit! 🙂 Frumos tare.. “Sublime!”… 🙂
