This charming region called “Languedoc-Roussillon” seduced and attracted: Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Dufy, Braque, Chagall, Dali and the great Spanish poet Antonio Machado… between the Mediterranean and the Eastern Pyrénées, just before the Spanish border, here’s the French-Catalan coast: azure sky and dark blue sea, grape vines, colorful houses, boats and fishing nets… Port-Vendres, Collioure, Banyuls, Cerbère – true “pearls”! – well, Matisse was right:”There is no other blue sky in France like this one here. I just have to close the shutters of my room and I get all the Mediterranean colors inside…”

P.S. about 20′-drive from the French-Spanish border, you get to Portlligat, near Cadaqués, where you can visit Salvador Dalí’s museum-house, his only steady residence, but you need to book in advance! 🙂

  6. Nice blues Mélanie, perhaps it’s just a suggestion of your worlds, but I feel some familiarity of the sea and the hills with some of Dali’s works…

  7. Oh my, I wish we were there. Leslie

  10. Rich vistas, lovely photos, Melanie — makes sense that it drew these talented artists.

  11. A wonderfully varied and picturesque part, judging from the excellent pictures. Who needs tropical islands? It all seems to be there.

  12. One of my favorite parts of France. Beautifully captured, Melanie!
