Death Valley is a land of superlatives: the bottom of the continent, the furthest extent of heat and drought – the outer age of life… 🙂 therefore:”How could rocks, sand and silence make us afraid, and yet be so wonderful?!…”(Edna Brush-Perkins) This elevated huge area of yellow-brown-black badlands, with the white salt flats in the main valley beyond, called Zabriskie Point is considered THE absolute landmark of this park – by definition and by excellence which I also confirm… 🙂
It communicates with the Golden Canyon which I visited before the ZP. Here’s a colorful, undulating landscape of gullies and mud hills at the edge of the Black Mountains. In the past, it was possible to drive right to the edge of the overlook; several minutes of the movie “Zabriskie Point” were set and shot there by the Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni in 1970, with Pink Floyd’s soundtrack music. Last but not least: the amazing scenery at sunset gives a better overall view down amongst the variegated dunes… 🙂

Mark: Would you like to go with me?
Mark: Wherever I’m going.
Daria: Are you really asking?
Mark: Is that your real answer?
Daria: There’s a thousand sides to everything – not just heroes and villains. So anyway ought to be one word. Like a place or a river. “So Anyway River.”
