Grande Mosquée Sheikh Zayed @ Abu Dhabi, EAU…

motto:”The moonlight gets into the room through its opening, nevertheless its light spreads everywhere, from East to West.”(Rumi)

built in 2003, commissioned by Sheik Zayed – its main architect, the founding father of the modern UAE, buried on the spot; 82 domes, 4 minarets of 107m, a structure of about 22,500m2, designed according to Moroccan plans, whose only goal(fully achieved!) has been to create beauty… absolutely speechless in front of this both gigantic and graceful masterpiece: in the auditorium – columns decorated with agate, lapis lazuli, amethyst; on the floor – the largest carpet in the world: over 2,500,000 knots; we look at the ceiling and we admire a 9 ton-chandelier, made with a million Swarovski crystals – the largest ever created… long story, short: sublime, impressive, majestic, breathtaking white beauty reminding that of the Taj Mahal – a unique cultural experience, accessible to EVERYONE.

  1. It certainly is grand. Thank you for sharing a sight that I’m sure I will never see in person.

  2. If their goal was to create beauty, they were very successful. It must have been breathtaking, Melanie.
